Finnish Sauna

Finnish Sauna

Finnish people are known to have used saunas for thousands of years. The traditional Finnish sauna is a wood burning one; the wood is used to heat the sauna by burning in the stove. The ideal temperature in this type of sauna is between 70 and 100 degrees celcius, while humidity is less than 15%. This is also called a dry heat sauna. Throwing water on the heated rocks controls the humidity in the sauna.

Nowadays many Finnish saunas are electric; instead of the stove being heated with wood it is heated electrically and in similar fashion as with the wooden sauna water is thrown on the heated rocks to heat the sauna.
