Barite is a mineral composed of barium sulfate (BaSO4).
API Specification 13A -Drilling-grade barite is produced from commercial barium sulfate-containing ores. Used as a weighing agent in drilling fluids in the oil and gas industry. We are able to offer a range of grades – 3.95, 4.00, 4.10, 4.22 and 4.30 – in accordance with customer requirements, and work closely with our suppliers to ensure that all specifications are met on a consistent basis.
Barite’s Mohs hardness is 3.0 to 3.5, making it a relatively soft mineral. It is chemically inert and insoluble, which along with its high density, lends itself to a variety of applications. Typical chemical composition: BaO 65.7%; SO3 34.3%.
